Update, October 22, 2005: Final painting has begun...go to last page! Update, Nov. 14, 2005 = All of the panels are painted, albeit with some really bad runs on the fenders and doors, likely due to inadequate lighting and zealous carelessness on the part of the AMPster "director." Further sanding is being done on the two rear fenders, the worst panels, and they are almost ready to be reprimed and painted again. VALUABLE LESSON: Don't try to paint more than about two panels at a time - (but have another one prepped and ready to paint in case I have too much paint left in the gun - this stuff has a short "pot life!" tjw.....CHATROOM FOR THIS PROJECT IS: - -- (Because of an insideous recurring spam advertisement, the chatroom for this site has been changed to ; http://www.theautochannel...ere%21&frame=frameset ).. - June 2, 2006, Except for interior wall and door upholstery and headliner, and some horn switch troubleshooting and a few other minor details, the AMP car is done today. Further work will have to be done at a later time, as time, parts, and finances become available. It has been seven long years, and many other projects await my attention. Another necessary final touch on the engine - the timing cover. Of all the cotton-pickin' luck...could not find a timing cover gasket in the new kit! Looked at the kit inventory list on the box and it is not listed! Then at the bottom a special note sez: "The timing cover gasket is not included in this kit, as these vary with the application, and should be purchased from your supplier separately! Oh, fine! But it DOES look just like the cover on the KF Cont. 226s, and we save a whole box of gaskets in the loft...up we go...The first thing we find is not one gut TWO boxes of 226 pan gaskets, ten in each box, still new with KF markings. A check with the pan itself determined that the old/new gaskets were an eensie-bit small, but a soak in hot water in the kitchen sink brought them back to correct dimensions in no time! Anybody need a K-F timing-cover gasket!
