This is the first model I started and finished in 2006. Construction began around 9/17/06 and finished 10/26/06.. probably the fastest I have copmpleted a model since the days where I didn't paint them :)
This is a replica stock build of an actual car. The subject vehicle is a 1985 El Camino. It is easy to find 78-81 and 86 "El Camino SS" kits, but this year the 82-86 is rare. I was way lucky and found a lot on ebay of 3 old built ups. I snapped it up and got to work. I also got a fresh elcamino SS kit so I could build the chassis and interior with fresh clean parts. .... Here is How I built this model
I came up with the idea of the "Box Art Abomination" posting day on the HHMB. The idea is to acutally use the absurdly ugly decal sheets in kits from the 70s and 80s. I have chosen the monogram 1970 Malibu. This is a nice kit. Detailed enough to be nice, and not so detailed as to become overly fiddly.
This one Got shelved for a little while. I got disgusted with the landing gear legs and I want to go to the Udvar Hazy Museum to get a few pics f their SR-71 so I can get this thing some what accurate.
I bought this kit on a closeout sale from HobbyHeaven in like 99 ... and I take it out every once in a while and do some more work on it. It was going well then I moved, so maybe I'll finish it one of these days.
