| | Marie Watson Rheiner The grave of Marie Watson Rheiner, the mother of Mrs. John Nance Garner. Mrs. Garner,Mariette Elizabeth Rheiner, grew up an orphan at various ranch homes on the plains of the Blanco Creek in Uvalde County. The tragic death of her mother, when Ettie was only one year old was recorded in a letter by her father, written in 1870. Research by members of the Uvalde Historical Commission led to the discovery of the headstone, marked as Marie Watson Rheiner, at a remote site between Knippa and Sabinal. The gravesite is near a rock cliff from which the mother fell as she attempted to save her child from a raging flood. A book describing the life of Ettie Rheiner written by Richard Graham and Lalani McClure, gives a detailed account of the family and the death of Mrs. Rheiner. | PROTECTED | | | | | | | All photos subject to copyright laws and are the property of Larry Trulove grave 002 | | | | | |
