Acre (English pronunciation [ˈɑːkɚ] or [ˈɑːkrə]; Hebrew: עַכּוֹ, Akko; Arabic: عكّا, 'Akka; Turkish: Akka)[1] also known as Akko, is a city in the Western Galilee area of northern Israel. It is situated on a low promontory at the northern extremity of Haifa Bay. According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Acre had a population 45,800 at the end of 2005.
