Products I LOVE -Transition to "organic" products
Apr 15, 2012

If you have been following me on this site, you may know that I have made the decision to transition to "natural products", meaning products that have ingredients that are organic or at least %90 organic.

I personally had no problem with products that contained silicones, parabens, mineral oil and such. However, I felt, since I know what's better for my hair...I should do better...

A first it was hard to find replacements for many of the non organic things that were working great for me, but I got the basics down and it's been great. This transition has also made my hair routine very simple as I don't require extra steps to ensure that a product will "work" for me or I rarely have to worry about them not "working" the same...

My hair has felt great. Many people think that their hair will feel drier or they will have tons of knots without cones, but i've experienced the contrary. I still have the same shine, if anything, I think better. No issues with splits, and tangles. My hair feel softer than it's ever been...

This album will show you my replacements. Many of them work exactly the same as the non organic or even better...

I hope this helps you...

My First Cassia treatment
Oct 29, 2010

First I prepoo'd with Vatika Oil & Amla Oil and fingerdetangled
Cleansed with Dr.Bronners Lavender Castile Soap
Mixed 9TBSPS of Cassia powder with about 3TBSPNS of coconut milk,2TBSPNS of Honey, 1 TBSPN of Castor Oil, and warm water until it was the consistency of pudding...
Left it on for about 6 hours...
It was fairly easy rinse out, took 2 cowashes and a shampoo
I immediately felt a difference when rinsing, my hair was heavier and strands were smoother, most importantly my ends. When my hair dried my curls were really defined, and my hair was shiny...
Next I left my naked hair to dry, and DC'd w/ steam, I wanted to make sure I got as much moisture as possibe to I continued to DC overnight...
the next day, as I rinsed the DC out, my hair felt soooo silky, and shine was much more apparent...
I gave myself an AVC rinse to lock in the moisture, then moisturized and sealed...

I am definately feeling cassia more than henna right now, and I think I will do it once a month...

My first Henna
Oct 17, 2010

First I prepoo'd with Vatika Oil and fingerdetangled
Cleansed with Dr.Bronners Lavender Castile Soap
I mixed 100gms of henna with almost the whole can of coconut milk ,and 2 1/2 tbsns of ACV
I applied the henna t o my towel dried hair, right away, and let it sit for about 3 hours...
The henna was fairly easy to wash out as it took only 3 cowashes...

VERDICT
I didnt really experience a significant difference in my hair, except for slight color changes in a few areas... I have a feeling it has to do alot with the quality of the henna I bought, and I think it was about a year old...

UPDATE 10/21/10
So it looks like the henna did something to my hair after all, I noticed a brownish tint in head all over, I guess it took a few days for the color to really come through...Now I know I need to get my hands on indigo pronto..

Also I havent DC'd ,put any thing or did any thing to my hair since the henna and my strands actually still feel good, no tangles, no knots, and my DC is smoothing on quite easily...

Baking Soda Deep Treatmeant!! Highy recommended for transitioners and stretchers!!
May 14, 2009

This method was brought to my attention by a member on BHM. I figured that since I cant get good use from some of my old and least fav DC's , I should just try this to get what I need (moisture) out. them. Its a good clarifier as well.

The baking soda basically lifts cuticles, allowing moisture to get nto hair.

. I recommend doing this bi weekly to once a month, because if you use this to much can end up drying out your hair.

I must warn you that you dont leave this on for a long time, because it is an alkaline(which opens up hair cuticles). I left mine in for 1hr and 15 mins tops.Do not rub this in because you can end up burning your scalp and skin.

So after you this you can expect less bulkiness, a looser texture, or hair that is just super soft and easy to comb through.

Heat Damage Arghhhh!!

A small section of my hair got heat damaged months ago. The stringy strands werent that apparent back then because my hair was much shorter . Now with all the growth i've had you can see the difference in textures.

So Tell me what you think i should do..
Should I just go right ahead and chop them off??-
My issue is what it will look like when i do a press, and what if it makes my hair look really uneven.
I do have a hair length goal but at the same time the health of it is important.

Or should I just let it grow out a lil more before chopping? If I do that are there some things I can do to revive those strands in the meantime??
