yarn twists, kinky twists, and more on my 14 y/o sister, who transitioned after a relaxer my mom was persuaded into getting by my aunt broke off her hair to TWA status. as a result unlike most middle schoolers she HATES heat/chemicals on her hair. i got the idea for the yarn twists from Honesty's fotki. being someone who can't even cornrow (i'm working on it though!), i think they came out great. (2009 update: i can cornrow now!)
*UPDATE 6/17/08: she is now natural! we cut off the ends this week and set her hair on perm rods before redoing the twists.
*UPDATE 7/29/08: added pics of her kinky twists, done with janet marley braiding hair. see my pics in "au naturel" for more info. i will have to update soon. she has had them 2 weeks and has .5" of new growth from megatek.
*UPDATE 5/4/09: added new length check pictures. her hair is the longest it has ever been and she is ecstatic.
*UPDATE 8/6/09: we are doing two-strand twists for the summer! she begins high school in september, and i think that is when she will go back to kinky twists and the like.
*UPDATE 1/7/10: after taking her box braids out right before new years, she decided she wanted her hair pressed for a week or two before going back into kinky twists. my mom used an electric hot comb on my sister's hair coupled with chi silk infusion, and i trimmed her ends. they seem to need more of a trim, but since this is the first time she has straightened her hair in 2+ years, i won't worry about it right now.
