A Year in Photos

A little experiment in trying to become a better photographer... A picture every day for a year, fingers crossed :)

I actually love this shot. The only thing I would have changed was correcting the perspective so the electric tower looked straighter, but I like the vastness of the photo.

Thanks Clive, I think that the pylons help with both the depth and scale in the picture. I have been meaning to have a look at perspective corection or a while but not got round to it, think I will have a look whilst I amuploading todays picture :)

Awesome - glad you're having fun.
What kit have you bought, i'm guessing you rate it well?

Cheers Jim... I did not go for a kit in the end, got an old Vivitar 285HV Speedlight with a cactus trigger a stand and umbrella. I wanted the flexibility to work outside as I am planing to try and take some people shots out and about which I could not do with a studio set up. I have only played around a little but can immediately see the advantage of moving the flash off the same plane as the lens and am really happy with the results so far.

I was looking at some Yongnuo speedlights but the guide numbers were pretty low but they do have ettl so if I enjoy working with them and get enough people allowing me to take their picture I could add one to use as a secondary light :)

Nice shot Brian - it's nice to put a face (be it partial) to the project.
Yes Clive definitely your turn tomorrow - then i may have to retake mine with my glasses on, just to really join the gang!

Cheers Jim, thought I would give it a go for a laugh and make an appearance in my project. I want to try and do a 3/4 shot on a similar vein but block the light so it is concentrated around the eyes in a vertical stripe. Will give it a go when the snow comes.

I envy the fact, that you basically live of your own land ! How wonderful. ( I have to go to the farmer's market if I want decent, home-grown veggies. )

That was the aim when we moved out here, left the big city and the office job behind and traded it for a "proper" job. It has taken a couple of years but we are getting there, the next big step is hunting for meat but I need to be a better shot, Autumn is superb for Grouse and Pigeon and eventually look to get a full licesnse and hunt for Bambi!

I have always loved food and as a result cooking but have never eaten as well as we do now :)

The way you live is the way it ought to be........... People don't have any relation to their food sources anymore. Have you ever read "Eating Animals" by Safran Foer ? Highly recommendable ! Makes you think twice about the foods you're eating. I dread turkey day............

Lovely. I was aiming for a shot like this on my day of Monday, but the fog was SO thick you wouldn't of even been able to see the first reeds in your picture.
Great work Brian - (that sensor dust spot is a little distracting though, get the clone tool out).

Bugger missed it! Never mindwill clone it out when the snow comes lol

The fog was pretty bad but really pushed the contrast and blacks to try and get a little more detail hence the noise in the picture, but it suits the day really :)
