| | | - Moisie River trip, Aug 27 - Sept 10, 2005.
-
-
Moisie is a famous white water ( class 3-5) river in northern Quebec. We went there as an all-man team of 6 with two catamarans ( 4 + 2 ). After the long rain (brought there by hurricane Katrina), the water level became very high and the difficulty of rapids increased one category up. This album is a collections of pictures caught with 3 digital cameras - with about 75% contributed by Boris Levi. I selected about 200 frames out of 1200 for this album. The letter "b", "d" or "l" after the number indicates the frame author. "b" for Boris Levi, "d" for Dima Avramenko and 'l' for me (Lenya Fromzel).
We were busy running the rapids and not always shot pictures in the process. But threre is enough to give you an impression. Most pictures are shot with telephoto mode (or longest focus possible), because Moisie is a very big river, often more than 100 meters wide. As a result many big waves and holes appear smaller and shorter than they actually were. This was a problem even for a naked eye while we scouted rapids - from a distance some obstacles looked less serious than they proved to be...
In a short time I'll add comments to some pictures. In my livejournal (user 'lom') I'll describe the trip in more detail.

| | | - Broadback River 2006
-
-
Broadback is a high-volume river in Northern Quebec. Our team of 10 paddled the lower section from Broadback bridge to James Bay - a distance of 120 km - over 6 days in late July. We used self-bailing raft, 4 infatable and one hard-shell kayaks. I always wanted to do a serious river in hard-shell, and this time my group (thans to everyone!) allowed me the opportunity.
This photo album was compiled from frames shot by 5 digital cameras we had with us. --- Broadback offers nearly everything one could ask from a 1-week trip: complete wilderness and solitude( less than 5 groups travel this river each year, so there are almost no portage trails in existance, except 2 - around falls, and even these are not easy to find), great white water with numerous rapids of class 3 to 5, good fishing, lots of berries, wild life viewing ( mooses, bears, beavers, etc.) and spectacular 32-metre-high waterfall. This is a big river ( well over 200 m3 per second), so rapids were difficult, and we had quite a few dumps and swims. Fortunately, most rapids on Broadback are ended with stretches of quiet water, and swimming there is usually not that dangerous as on some over rivers I've seen. Still, this river has to be taken very seriously: one swim in our group was about 3 km long and we were lucky it did not result in injury or worse. I'll add maps, technical stuff and comments later. Enjoy! raft, 4 infatable and one hard-shell kayaks. I always wanted to do a serious river in hard-shell, and this time my group (thans to everyone!) allowed me the opportunity.
