Sataf is a charming green gem tucked away in the Jerusalem Hills, just west of the capital. Two local fresh water springs flow into an ancient storage cistern hewn out of the rock, and are ducted to agricultural terraces to irrigate fruit trees and vegetable gardens.
On the other side of the gorge the "John in the Desert" monastery is located.
