Debuting in March of 2012, this all new truck begged to be built in scale. I had planned to attend the Mid-America Truck Show and see the truck in person and gather reference material, photographs and measurements, but with my father passing away the week of the show, my plans changed. A month later I set out to build the Next Generation Peterbilt from photos that others had taken at the show and promotional material from Peterbilt. Using flat plastic and a product called Renshape resin styling board, I fabricated the cab, roof, hood, grille, bumper, mirrors, visor, chassis skirts, instrument panel and door panels. It isn't perfect, the bottom edge of the hood/fenders drops down about 3 scale inches too far, and the bumper as about 2 scale inches too tall. Once I get my hands on a 1:1 579 I can measure things and get a good feel for the truck. Started 4/15/12. Finished 5/18/12.
Ok, not being satisfied with the shape of the fenders and the grille height ( and thus the bumper height), I set out to redo the hood. Redux started 6/16/12 2pm. Redux hood and bumper reinstalled after reworking and repainting. A new grille was made. 6/20/12.
