Birds and mammals on Monterey Sea Valley trip on 28 August 2009 and from Bodega Bay to deep water beyond Cordell Banks on 5 September 2009. Both with Shearwater Journeys.

Birding trip with Field Guides Inc. to Sabah, Borneo, led by Rose Ann Rowlett 21 June to 5 July 2009.

Sites visited include Kota Kinabalu City Bird Reserve, Sepilok Rainforest Discovery Center (and boardwalk), Gomantong Caves, the Kalimantangan River (Sukau Rainforest Lodge) and tributaries, Borneo Rainforest Lodge in the Danum Conservation Area, Tambunan Rafflesia Reserve, Mt Kinabalu Park, and Poring Hot Springs.

I was using a Canon EOS 50D (15.1 MP) camera with a Canon 300/2.8 image stabilized lens, and occassionally a 28-105mm lens or a 60mm macro lens. Note that many birds were photographed in closed forest using a flash and 400 ISO on the camera and in difficult conditions. I've included some lower quality images of things that are especially challenging to photograph, as well as nicer shots where available.
