To measure the depth of my Hewland MK9 transaxle case I used some metal working parallels in conjunction with a digital caliper. The goal was to measure from the rear edge of the transaxle case to the inner race of the pinion bearing. Before measuring, make sure to remove any shim/spacer that is positioned over top of the inner race of the pinion bearing. It's easy to overlook the spacer because it looks almost like the surface of the inner race. I used a magnet to pull the spacer off.
