Old Onan Generator

This old Onan genset is complete, except for the bottom of the oil bath air cleaner. It runs, but is hard starting. But it is over 60 years old, and I can relate to that problem.

I can't believe that thing's over 60 years old! One of my roommates has an older generator, but nothing that old. His generator has been having trouble starting, and staying running for some reason. He was telling me that he might end up using a rental generator until he finds a model that he would invest in. Great picture, Mike.

    I have three of those.
I believe all three are rebadged as Wards Powerlites.
Two are electric start and they are all different wattages.
    I have a 500 Watt, 1000 Watt and a 1500 Watt.
The only one ready to run is the 1000 Watt and it is the one with just a pull start.
After setting for a year or two it usually starts on the second pull.
I take that one to old engine shows for power.

This one is marked only as an Onan, and it is rated at 1000 watts. I was able to get some literature for it, and there it sits. I did re-wire the electrical outlet, but have otherwise done nothing with it. I have a 25 KW generator for the house - driven by the PTO on one of my tractors, so I don't really need the Onan for anything. I am guessing that it dates to the 1940's, but I have no way of knowing.
