Wet arrival in Poland. Journey to Zakopane delayed by accident and other traffic. The rain eventually stopped while we were having dinner and stayed away for the rest of the holiday - Album was created 2 years 0 months ago and modified 2 years 0 months ago

Last day in Krakow plus an extra day at the airport waiting for a door to be fixed. A walk round the Planty with another visit to Wawel Castle. Early morning start saw some last minute packing before taking a last quick look at the square. It was very different. It was almost empty and the square was being sprayed to clean up the paving. This allowed some reflection shots. Delays at the airport allowed some to catch up on the gossip while others sought refuse in the chapel before taking a last quick look at the square. Out for a day taking photographs and the first thing we see is a model up a wall with a camera. Good start. Walk to the Jewish market (looks like a load of rubbish) and bump into a few other walkers. Travel to the ghetto area on the far side of the Wisla. Walk round the river bank to Japanese Restaurant with good views of Wawel. Then to Rooftop restaurant before going into Wawel walkers. Leaving the Start Hotel and travelling to Krakow was a new start to the holiday. Everything was different. The room we were allocated in the hotel turned out to be a suite complete with kitchen and living area. The hotel was right next to the main square and the square was very photogenic. St Mary's church stood out from the rest. Feeling hungry after the journey we ate at one of the street cafes at the edge of the square and watched the world go by living area. We started our walk by going to look at the ski jump area and were amazed to find it in full use by school kids aged from about 7 - 16. It was great watching them glide through the air in the sunshine. Pity we had to leave but a walk along the edge of the National Park beckoned sunshine. While a small group of walkers took on the challenge of Giewont, many took time off to explore Zakopane and the hill which could be reached by Funicalar Railway or chairlift. The view across the valley to the Tatras was great as we enjoyed our beer and pizza followed by a stroll along the hilltop trail passed the market stalls valley to the Tatras was great as we enjoyed our beer and pizza followed by a stroll along the hilltop trail passed the market stalls - Album was created 2 years 0 months ago and modified 2 years 0 months ago

I didn't know what I expected during this visit. The first thing I saw after entering the camp was what looked like a lovely tree lined street. Those arriving here sixty years ago may have felt the same until they found out the truth. My other memory of the camps is of barbed wire fences and watchtowers. Miles of wire and hundreds of towers same until they found out the truth. My other memory of the camps is of barbed wire fences and watchtowers.
