101st Airborne heading for Mosul. Shows how much the people cared.

If you look at the first flatbed there's a gunner standing up; now if you look at the second flatbed just to the right of that gunner is my head and then Ray's. I remember the guy standing there in the road taking this picture and I am positive that it's Ray and me in that picture...

Ray Joseph is making his way back to the tents in which they bivouacked---right before they entered Iraq in early March '03

I think about him all the time, but then, I'm his mother. There's just something about sunrises and sunsets that bring Ray Joseph to mind so vividly. He loved both so much. He was always looking up. Even now that he has to be gone from us for a time, the skies in the early morning and at dusk can sometimes be filled with color that just takes my breath away. I think of him smiling with me as we look at a blazing skies once more. His view now must surely be wonderous.

    Always a smile.

Even though I never met Ray personally, I have heard of many things that he has accomplished, and I am very sorry for his loss. I think he was an amazing young man, and I love that every picture you have of him, he is smiling. His memory is passed by each and everyone of us, and Im very happy that I heard of his story.

This photo was submitted by CPL Drew Anderson---who will soon be SGT. Ray is the second from the right. This was taken early on in the war phase. For one thing, everybody's uniform still looks reasonably clean! But you can sure tell it's hot!

So many people are so very thankful of individuals like Ray. Although I never knew him, I've heard a number of outstanding characteristics about him that I strive to develop for myself. Ray will always be a role model of mine, continuing to make an impact on my life.

Ray Joseph; caught in another sunset display. Mosul, late summer, 2003.

Even though I have never met Ray, I feel like I knew him. He seemed like such an amazing person with such a caring heart. He appears happy and care-free in every picture he is in. I only wish I could have met him in person.

In Iraq and right at home with his weapon

Ray was an inspiring photographer, and a wonderful person. Though I never got the honor of meeting him, I've learned much about him, and have become a better person since learning of his bright outlook on life. Even being so far from home, Ray has a great smile on telling us everything would turn out for the best.
