My vacation in a nutshell -

Outbound Flight: SUPER RIDICULOUS!
SF to LAX to Vancouver to London to Frankfort to Venice

Cruise: Relaxing *finally*
Venice, Italy --> Mykonos, Greece --> Piraeus/Athens, Greece --> Katakolon, Greece --> Corfu, Greek Isle --> Split, Croatia --> Venice.

Return Flight: NEVER fly US Airways!!!
Venice (3hour delay) to Philadelphia (missed direct flight to SFO due to delay)...rebooked (another 2.5hour delay) to Las Vegas (more delays) to SFO.

Outside home at 3am. Spare key did not work. Locked out. Called locksmith. 2hrs and $150 later...finally, back (inside) home. *UGH*

Hotel Sant'Elena - Venice, Italy
Jun 29, 2007

The Hotel Sant'Elena is a great place to stay!

Located on the quiet side of Venice, away from the noisy tourist area is the Hotel Sant'Elena. The hotel used to be a monestary, but has since been remodeled. It is reasonably priced, boasts high ceilings, modern furnishings, roomy bathrooms, air conditioning and two thumbs up for it's cleanliness and airy feel! The FREE breakfast had a great and plentiful selection of really fresh, hot and cold food - pastries and breads, cereal, fruit, bacon, sausage, eggs, juice, coffee, etc! YUM!

The day staff isn't the friendliest, but maybe they're slightly cranky since they work the morning shift. The evening staff's very pleasant, warm and upbeat.

From the airport, I would recommend taking a private water taxi to the hotel. It will cost 90 euros one-way for two people, but they take you right to the back of the hotel.

To explore the rest of Venice, you can walk and/or take a water bus. It's a two minute walk on the otherside of the hotel.

The Hotel Sant'Elena is around 15mins by water taxi to San Marco. I was told you can walk to San Marco as well, which is what I would have done if I had more time.
