Chads Doon SWB

Here's some shots of my own Doon SWB - 2nd ever shell produced.

It was built from the ground up from my original beetle LEAKY (from the plate LEA 587K). I have owned Leaky for 19 years first 12 as abeetle and now last 5 as my buggy (with 2 years off the road rotting in my garage).

I designed the Doon along with my good friend Rich Crees primarily for our own enjoyment between 1999 and 2001. People liked it so much that we have now put the moulds into production - Doon

Initial prototype was built from MDF, Foam and Car filler before moulds were taken.

I am an enthusiast at heart and had a RAT/GP hybrid LWB for 8 years prior to the Doon (covering nearly 60,000 miles in that time as it was my only running car for a while)

So I built my Doon as I always really wanted to do the RAT.

My Doon was built with every last nut and bolt brand new.

It has:

1968cc Laurie Pettitt engine with twin 40 dellorttos, C35 SCAT cam, Waterboxer 2 litre counterweighted crank, external oil filtration and cooling, BAS stainless exhaust.

Runs on Porsche Boxster 9x17 rear and 7x17 fronts.

Has Porsche 944 turbo aluminium rear IRS arms and rear disc brakes. (with 911 rear IRS outer bushes!!)

Lowered PUMA front beam with discs brakes.

Custom made gauges from Green Gauges, CSP close ratio shifter, aluminium checkerplate floor halves and corbeau aftermarket seats

New fully tilt and slide adjustable VW Beetle steering column and switch gear.

Custom billet wing mirrors with built in side repeaters and led repeater whch shows through mirror (viewable from the rear). Harley Davidson Chrome over billet headlamps from the US

Runs Standard IRS 1600 gearbox.
