Henna is a great way to condition and provide color to natural hair. I have compiled a basic how-to that I have tested to achieve good henna results. I only began using henna in August 2006. Any color that you see before that is salon color or a box color.
This tutorial album is made to help anyone looking to add henna to their haircare routine. I will be adding additional routines and blends to this album, including ayurvedic mixes, indigo, and henna glosses.
For maximum color deposit and dark stain, I suggest Yemen or Rajastani. For serious red bright stain, try Jamila .
Henna gives highlights to African hair, defines curls and gives hair strength, volume and some detangling ease (for some this may mean manageability). Henna and indigo may only give all -over color depending on the porosity of the hair and hair history ( previous salon color can cause a deeper stain of henna) Henna color is usually subtle on dark and textured hair, unless you use it frequently for color/conditioning.
NOTE: henna as well as cassia can be used on natural hair in locs or braids (no extensions) with continued conditioning and strengthening benefits.
As always, feel free to post questions and I will answer them as best as I can.
