Experimenting w/ shea butter and Curls By Sisters Smith
Aug 1, 2008

-I co-washed with VO5 vanilla mint mixed w/ lemon juice
-Then I conditioned w/ my sample of Kenra moisturizing co. mixed w/ honey and left on for 10 minutes or so.
-Applied CV whipped shea butter to very wet hair as leave-in (used for first time on wet hair)
-Added some Curls by Sisters Smith Wet Set Pudding
-Next was three puddles of CK
-Then a generous amount of Biotera firm hold gel
-Scrunched out excess water w/ cotton tee while upside down, then scrunched in a bit more gel to ends
-Started diffusing and noticed I was getting quite a bit of surface frizz, so smoothed a lil' more CK over the crown
-Diffused to about 50% and got REALLY daring and sprayed Loreal Tightly Wound spray gel all over. I hated this the only time I ever used it, but decided to give it another shot.
-Finished diffusing to about 80%
(*all products were smoothed and then scrunched in).

Results: A lot of curl definition, even on my straighter nape of the neck hair, feels soft, and nice body and root volume. There was still more crown fuzzies then I prefer as the day went on...prob shouldn't of used both the pudding and the shea butter at the same time as the butter seems rich in oils. Even though I overall liked the results, I prefer not to put this much crap in my hair each time I style it.

Unlikely product combos

My routine on 9-1:
-low-poo w/ JC GLS
-condish w/ JC Aloeba and rinse
-smooth in Chagrin Valley whipped shea for leave-in
-smooth and scrunch in Alagio curl balm for curl enhancer (never really wowed in past trials)
-50:50 mix of BRHG and FX Special Effects Curl Booster gel (could never get FX to work for me before) smoothed and scrunched in
-Diffused to 50% dry and misted w/ Loreal Tightly Wound Spray gel all over, diffused a little more to set product, and air dried the rest of the way
-Scrunched crunch out w/ Karen's Body Beautiful (KBB) hair cream when 80% dry =(

Results:Surprisingly I really liked this combo, although the crunch was kind of hard to scrunch out-I may have overdone the BRHG. My hair is a bit darker looking from the oils in the shea butter and cream, but it is really shiny and soft feeling. My underneath layers have a lot of tight ringlets. Overall, I have less clumping and skinnier waves and curls than usual- which I like once in a while.

I love when I can get something to work for me that never did b-4. I hate wasting anything. I have never conquered the art of mixing products, so I always just layer them. BRHG mixes well w/ other gels I'm finding. I think FX Special Effects gel and BRHG mixed together is a winning combo!
