We made a quick visit to Maymont late morning/early afternoon on Father's Day. We visited the Italian gardens, Japanese gardens, bears and birds. I really need to come back when I have some more time to spend here.

On May 30, 2009, the new Mechanicsville Library opened its doors to the public, but the official grand opening celebration was held on June 14, 2009. The new building is more than twice the size of the old, and is much brighter and more inviting. I missed the ribbon-cutting and speeches but caught some of the reception.

The VMFA is scheduled for a renovation and expansion, so I went to visit the last day the Faberge exhibit was open to the public.

I went on a group tour of the Dooley Mansion at Maymont in the summer of 2008 (no photos were allowed inside the house, alas) and took a few photos of some of the gardens after lunch and before the tour.
