The National Zoo celebrated giant panda cub Tai Shan's fourth birthday with a three-tiered ice cake (which I missed) for Tai Shan and fruitcicles (which I didn't miss) for all three pandas.

I visited this zoo on a rainy and very foggy day. While it wasn't ideal for taking photos, it kept the crowds away. I was there for about an hour, and the whole time, the only other people I saw were zoo staff members. I'd like to go back on a nicer day, but I am sure I won't be so lucky with the (lack of) crowds.

A visit on a very cold and snowy day to the Denver Zoo. Due to the weather, many animals were off exhibit, but many animals were also doing well in the cold weather similar to their native habitat.

The female panda (Lun Lun) was not on exhibit as she might have been pregnant and about to give birth (edit: she was, and she gave birth to Mei Lan less than 2 weeks after my visit), but I got a number of photos of the male, Yang Yang.
