One of only four Orangutan reserves in the world. The Orangutans have been rehabilitated and are released into the rain forest surrounding the reserve. Free to come and go as they like, a few still come back for feeding.

Large, protected national park inhabited by some of the last SE Asian elephants and Orangutans. Crocodiles and several species of birds and monkeys unique to Borneo are also to be found

~January 3rd 2007~

The rapids were grade 3 to 4. We took a train through the jungle that went along the river. The train was the last remaining in Sabah..and quite old, very bare and a rough ride even though it was only moving 10 km/hr

We stayed here two nights at the Dragon Inn, and took day trips by boat to the diving spots around Mabul and Sipidan Islands.

Dozens and dozens of huge sea turtles, sharks, schools of hundreds of barracudas, schools of jack fish...amazing. All this and we were only snorkeling off the shore

Over an hour by boat from Semporna, this island is near Sipidan and is also a famous diving spot. Lots of Hawksbill turtles seen when snorkeling off the jetty

A short 20 minute ferry ride from the capital Kota Kinabulu...of Sabah province.
The nicest beach in the marine park with lost of fish that like to bite ankles! We visited here 3 days, once at the begining of our trip and twice more after we traveled around Sabah

Another of the islands making up Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park. Easy to fly into Kota Kinabalu from anywhere in SE Asia, then take a comfortable and enjoyable ferry (10 person max) from the port.

Two days spent here sleeping on the beach...
