| | Phil Dauphinee | - Corvette C5R Homologation
-
- Dec 31, 2005
-
This is a model of the first Corvette C5-R or more correctly the modified street Corvette Test Mule and Homologation car that became the first racecar. There was some thought at the time that a certain number of these “Super-Vettes” would have to built to meet regulations. There was a second homologation car with the more familiar exposed headlights and cut out hood vent that survives today at the Corvette Museum. The model is a melding of a stock Corvette chassis, running gear, windshield frame and glass and interior with a body from the firstC5-R kit. The hood and hood vents were opened up while side, roof and exhaust openings were blanked off. The engine was slightly modified and is closer to the engine configuration in the second Homologation car, which started off as more of a racecar for the street. The wheels are from Fujimi and are like the bolt on wheels used on the original car. The paint is the new Testor’s Custom Lacquer System, which I am very impressed with right out of the spray cans. certain number of these “Super-Vettes” would have to built to meet regulations. | | Phil Dauphinee | - Dean Geddes 59 Corvette
-
-
Dean Geddes only raced for a few years starting in 1958 in a 56 Corvette. Legend has it that the first race he entered he won was also the first race he had ever seen. The next year he got a new 1959 Corvette, in which he won the West Coast B-Production Championship. Building the model of Dean's car actually lead a re-union with a son Dean had not seen for 40 years and a chance to get to know two grand children he did not he had. -
-
GULDSTRAND NASSAU ROADSTER is a conversion of an AMT Guldstrand Grand Sport 90 Corvette into a replica of one of three 1995 Guldstrand Nassau Roadsters, which I have been attracted to since I saw one on the cover of issue 114 [April/May] of Sports Car International magazine in 1996. -Windshield and roof removed and replaced with AMT C-4 roadster windshield and section of body directly behind cockpit -All events opened up and backed by black mess -Grill scratch made and headlights converted to circular -Wheels are a combination of Fujimi 17 inch modular rims and Pirelli tires and Grand Sport 90 centers over Fujimi Brembo brakes -Engine is LT-1 from C-4 with centrifugal supercharger from an AMT 57 Ford -Exhaust tips shaped from aluminum tube. -Side markers added -Model Masters acrylic guards red exterior. Interior satin black and Scale Motorsports Faux Fabric tan -Decals made for wheel centers, engine and licence plate on the cover of issue 114 [April/May] of Sports Car International magazine in 1996. The model will eventually be actioned off to raise money for the California Organ Transplant Network. The owner and driver of the car was Wendall Chambers how had a heart transplant a few months before the start of the 2004 SPEED GT season. Phil Dauphinee [body].
