Today's Haitian is no more African than the African is Haitian. While there are some ethnic and definite racial heritage, we have evolved in different social ways. As Haitians, we are also westerners. The same is not true for continental Africans. I can understand some sentimental attachments to Africa. Beside that, we have very little in common with any african culture.

It seems that Pikliz is becoming very interactive at this point. I thank you very much for your comments, Mr Anonymous and Manny.
Mr Anonymous your point is absolutely right; Haitians have a great history and I am very proud of it. " Toussaint Louverture le premier des noirs à dire non au premier des blancs.( Napoleon Bonaparte) " is a sentence that would make any of us proud. Furthermore first sucessful slave revolt ..... It is only when you hit the cord " complex - and - or confusion of identity " that I think was innapropriate and out of context. If you agree with that, then lets us forget the whole thing and see this interaction as a done deal. Good luck to you and Manny keep up the effort.

He Bubu.

At some point, Pikliz will make it to Africa. Hopefully soon. There is a folder already on "stand by" to accomodate impending pics. We are so excited. I read your comments including those of "Anonymous". It feels as if I was in a class room. " Anonymous" asked us not to forget. We never did and never will! By the way, check the new album from Argentina!

I'm very happy that Haiti has had immigrants to the country in the 20th and 21st century. I'm very happy that other ethnic groups have adopted Haitian culture and nationality, but unfortunately Mr. Bubu my message is for the Haitians whose roots go back to the revolutionary era. So if you can excuse me Mr. Bubu while I address the Haitian People.

Haitians remember that moses led the slaves out of Egypt and away from their oppressors. That is a remarkable history that the Jews are proud of. You the Haitian people remember that you did not run away. You demolished the mightiest armies, seizing the land thus becoming Haitians. Haiti the birthplace of human freedom. Please Haitians remember that you are Haitian, not French, not British, not American, but Haitian. The first child of Africa. Our great history is part of our problem. Our forefathers thought we would continue the fight, unfortunately, some of us are aiding our oppressors. Blacks and Mulattoes, "L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE". The spirit of the revolution is still alive, and hopefully some of you will wake up from your coma.

It is amazing how this topic is generating so many comments; and frankly I do not understand the logic of some of these comments. What does posting pictures from a country has to do with " inferiority complex " or yet "confusion of identity" ? Pikliz has posted over 1000 pictures of Haiti. They have posted albums about writers, musicians , painters and our heroes ( Dessalines ,Toussaint , Christophe, Pétion etc etc.) .......Unfortunately this is true that the white considers everything from Africa as being primitive. Some of us fall for that as you mentionned and they, on certain occasions, look for some white lineage if they can find it to boost their esteem. I would not even call that an" inferiority complex". To me, a person with an" inferiority complex is someone who, because of his or her origin , race , size, social status or even religion or any impairement (and or disability) is subconsciously letting that interfer with his or her ability to function in the society. He or she would keep a low profil or would act in a manner as to prove to others what they think of him or her is innacurate .....Is that the case now for Pikliz or any of their staff.....? I don't think so....... You have to remember that during Geffard' s presidency many people emmigrated to Haïti. For instance my grand father was St. Thomian and moved to Haiti with his mother when he was only nine years old. If I mention that, does that constitute an "inferiority complex " ? I don' t think so. (And the same at the begining of the 20 th. century, so many arabs emmigrated to Haiti). Those haitians (with arabic lineage) who mention that ,do they feel they are inferior or superior..... I don't think so. Now lets stop this insanity; no need to go to the sewers and bring all that dirt on the surface ; let' s give credit to Pikliz for the outstanding job the staff is doing. We shoud be proud of this truly Haitian syte. God bless all of you. May be one day Pikliz will proudly post an album on Nigeria , Côte d ' Ivoire or Sénégal.......Afrique du Sud ...Zaire.....etc....The day will come.

We "Haitians" have a tendency to forget that we belong to the "BLACK" race.

Another Anonymous.. I greatly enjoyed the pictures. Thank you. Do I see a forum sometime in pikliz.com future? I hope so. On another note in re to "he does not have the courage to identify himself" from Manny. While I do not agree with Anonymous at all, because there are fewer places on the web which show as much Haitian pride as www.Pikliz.com, we have to be honest with ourselves that Haitian society does not always condone open dialogue. Especially when it deals with "sensitive" topics of race, class and politics.
Another Anonymous : )

In reference to the comment "he must be more African then us", simply shows the real poison of Haiti. Now if that's not inferiority, then it must be called (CONFUSION OF IDENTITY).

Anonymous wrote: January 25, 2007 - 2:08 AM

This website is such a wonderful platform for dialog. We should all contribute money to the founder of pikliz for such a venue of the Haitian culture as a whole. Let me be more specific about my comment, in regarding to Africa. Haitians seem to forget what Haiti stands for in the world. That is Haiti's problem! My references is not just towards Haitians. It seems that the average black in the western hemisphere, no matter the shade, looks at the white as his hero, he wants to be like him; he values what the white value including hatred of his own people and consider everything black African primitive; in fact, he teaches his children to change their identity because he is ashmed of his roots. Some search through their family line looking for a white ancestry to be proud of. That my friends is inferiority complex.

Guest Manny wrote: January 24, 2007 - 3:28 PM

Yes Bubu, What is wrong wih this guy. He must be more African than us. I hope he does not have superiority complex which is also an illness. In addition, he does not have the courage to identify himself.

Guest Bubu wrote: January 24, 2007 - 2:10 AM

Come on ! I really do not understant the logic of your comment. This site has so many albums with hundreds of pictures of Haiti. (Jacmel, Carnaval etc. etc.) The most recent one is very succesful. For you to insinuate that not displaying pictures of Africa is " what you call inferiority complex " is really far fetch. ( and worst you are hiding behind the veil of anonymity ). This is the 21 st. century. Wake up! It' s people with your mentality that is holding back the country . There is absolutely nothing wrong in exploring another culture.

Anonymous wrote: January 22, 2007 - 9:50 AM

Regarding the comment about Africa and culture, The majority of blacks in the western hemisphere embrace their culture and are very proud of their origin. I am sorry to tell you that i don't see any llink between your comment and the pictures from Kuwait. Congratulations Pikliz! i learned something new today about kuwait and have enjoyed the pictures. Keep up the good work

Anonymous,

Whenever the Pikliz crew has the opportunity to visit a place, we always share pictures with our visitors. If you do have photos from Africa, we will be more than happy to post them.

I would like to see some photos of African trips. Africa has the fastest growing cities in the world. It has some of the fastest developing nations on earth. The grandest and oldest history. Because of negative media propaganda. Blacks in the western hemisphere would rather embrace other cultures and delete their origins. That is what you call inferiority complex.
