Scottish Castles, Tower Houses & Stately Homes
Scotland has many castles and stately houses, some very very old and some just old, they date from as early as the 12th centrury.
One of my hobbies over many years has been viewing some of these castle and houses, not necessary viewing the inside of them, but certainly being able to view the outside of the buildings. The castles and houses vary in size from very small towers to hugh magnificent structures and from complete buildings to ruins where very little remains of the original buildings.
Since obtaining a digital camera it has been a lot easier to take pictures of the castles and store them altogether in the one place.
I hope I will be able to continue this hobby for a long time to come.

Auchen Castle is now a hotel.
The original Castle is now in ruins next to what was the home farm for the next Auchen Castle built by General Johnstone in 1849. Through marriage, Auchen Castle became the property of Sir William Younger.
When you walk though the castle grounds you will find many unusual species of trees and plants, some of which would have a rich history to tell if they only could.
Auchen Castle Hotel has played host to some famous people over the years; The King of Norway, The Beatles, Barbara Cartland, Chris de Burgh, to name but a few.
