The Gathering 2009 was part of Homecoming Scotland 2009.
The Gathering was the gathering of The Clans from all over the world. They met at Holyrood Park in Edinburgh just next to Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament.
The Clans village housed the tents belonging to all the clans taking part, people wandered in and around the tents asking questions and introducing themselves to one another.
At the Gathering there was also Highland Games, with displays of Highland Dancing, Piping, Country Dancing and Pipe Bands, as well as Tossing the Caber, Heavy Athletes displays, and the Tug of War. There were also tents exhibiting Scottish food and others displaying Scottish Crafts.
There were lots of other tents with entertainment for all ages. In the music arens we watched The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, a group playing all kinds of music on the Bagpipes.
In the evening at about 8pm The Clans led by The Atholl Highlanders (Europe's last remaining private army ) marched up the Royal Mile to the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle to see the production of "Aisling's Children; Tales of the Homecoming", a magical tale telling the story of the start of the Scottish Nation running through to the present day to tell the dramatic story of th clans role in the history of Scotland.
A really good day out, we left home early, travelled by bus to Edinburgh and didn't get home until almost midnight
