01.07.06 Poland

Our annual holiday this year took us to Poland with our rambling club. We spent the first 7 days in Zakopane and did a few walks within the Tatra National Park, the scenery was truly beautiful. We also visited Auschwitz and the Wielisczka Salt Mines. For the last three days of our holiday we traveled to Krackow where we spent three days sight seeing around the town. We visited lovely old buildings The Cloth Hall, St Mary's Cathedral, The Ghetto (The Old Jewish area)the Jewish Market and many more lovely places. All in all a truly great holiday in a country I have never visited before. The organiser of our holiday, his mother was Polish, he must have been really proud to show off such a beautiful country to to us.Oh and by the way, our weather was absolutely fantastic.

    Day 7 Alan & I explore Zakopane
    Jul 7, 2006

While a small number of our group decided to do the Mount Giewont Walk and an even smaller number took on the challenge of climbing to the top of the Mount, Alan & I and a number of other people decided to opt out of the organised walk and do our own thing.
Alan and I decided that we would explore Zakopane. We visited the Ski Jumps, did a walk skirting the national park, visited the market, took the Fenicular to the top of Gubalowka where we had lunch. We then walked along the top of Gubalowka to the chair lift and decended the mountain experiencing the most peaceful and quiet decent while sitting in the chair lift, from here we were able to see the whole valley floor and the mountain peaks. When we arrived back at our hotel we noted that we had actually walked for longer than we would have done had we gone on the walk.
