- Jun 10, 2008
I have done this walk four or fife times but each time the start of the walk has been slightly different.A cracker of a walk to-day,we stopped at the Creels Restaurant in Coldingham for our morning coffee and loads of scones and to finish off we were served after eight mints. Our walk started from the car park of the Creels Restaurant and headed down the Creel Path past the Old Smiddy then headed towards Mire Loch and onto the costal path to St Abb's Head and the lighthouse. The walk was very varied with lots of up and downhill stretches with varied scenery. The weather was dry sunny and warm with a light breeze blowing which made the conditions comfortable for walking. We continued along the costal path towards St Abb's a lovely little old fishing village where we had lunch sitting down by the harbour. After lunch we again took the costal path heading for Eyemouth another fishing village on the East Coast of Scotland, on this stretch some of the cliffs were quite high and the views quite dramatic. Our day finished when we headed towards Dunbar and the Whitekirk Golf Club for a meal, we could see Tantallion Castle and the Bass Rock from the windows of the golf club. Seting off from East Kilbride travelling by coach to Birnham and the Beatrix Potter Centre where we had our morning coffee stop. We then headed to Pitlochry where we started our 7 mile walk at The Pitlochry Festival Theatre car park. We started our walk in lovely spring weather, lovely colours and sunshine, we walked up over the hill to the Clunie, over the moors. We stopped for our lunch with views looking down to Tummel Bridge, as we finished lunch the clouds became very heavy and dark , we could see the rain falling in the distance. Shortly after lunch as we headed across the moor the rain started and became quite heavy with thunder and lightening, we continued on our way but the rain remained with us until we reached the end of our walk at Strathtay. Our social stop was spent where our walk ended at a lovely little place called The Inn on the Tay. Still a lovely walk and great to be out walking in spite of the wet weather. Our walk started at the Crinan Harbour Basin then we climbed up to the top of a hill and looked down an the safe haven of Crinan Bay. We passed the little village of Carsaig and then headed towards our destination of Tayvallich on the banks of Loch Sween where once again we were met with stunning views of the area. After our usual tea & scones we headed off on our walk up over the hill to the lovely Croabh Haven a marina on the shores of The Firth of Lorne. The views coming down into the marina were stunning, we were able to see out over the firth to some of Scotlands smaller islands namely Scarba, Lunga Luing and Seil Island, with views of Mull in the distance. A walk to blow away the cobwebs and get the body back into shape after the festivities of Christmas and New Year. Great to be out on the hills. This walk took us by bus from East Kilbride to Arrochar where we had our morning stop for tea & coffee. We then drove up the Rest and Be Thankful where we started out walk, and walked down into Lochgoilhead and into the local hotel where the group had booked to have a meal. When we started the walk it was cold, but dry, shortly after this the rain started and became very heavy, it continued like this for the rest of the walk. But hey, never mind the weather, a good time was had by one and all. Arrochar where we had our morning stop for tea & coffee.
