6 of us travelled from East Kilbride to Melrose in the Scottish Border Country to do a recci for the Midweek Walkers. We had our morning stop at the Woolen Mill shop in Melrose. When we came out after coffee it had been raining, the smell of the wet countryside was lovely and fresh.
We started our walk by walking past the beautiful historic Melrose Abbey and the Commendator's House.
We walked out of Melrose gradully climbing up into the Eildon Hills that overlook the town of Melrose.
Our weather was quite overcast and we did eventually get some rain, it then cleared and we had some sunshine and blue skies.
We had our lunch sitting overlooking the lovely border country which surrounded us.
After lunch we then headed towards Newton St. Boswells, again at times walking on parts of the St. Cuthbert's Way path that starts at Melrose and leads to Lindesfarne on the Holy Isle. We finished our walk then headed by bus back to Melrose to our cars. Our walk was approximately 7 miles. We then headed to the Buccleuch Arms Hotel at Newton St. Boswells for our social stop.
After the group split up to travel home, Alan and I drove to the historic site of Scott's View where we took in the lovely views of the countryside and the three Eldion Hills in the distance.
We then travelled to visit Smailholm Tower, Floors Castle and Thrilestane Caste as I collect photos of Castles
