Bochastle Hill

Our walk this month took us to Loch Lommond & Trossachs National Park and the lovely village of Callander.
The journey from East Kilbride to Callander took rather longer than normal because of traffic congestsion due to a road traffic accident on our route. On arriving at Callander we went for our morning coffee stop at the Dreadnought Hotel.
Todays walk was originally a 9.5 mile walk, but was shortened to 7.5 mile because of our later starting time. The walk started at the car park at the Dreadnought Hotel and finished at the Lade Inn at Kilmahog.
On leaving the car park we crossed Callander main street and walked to South Church Street where we crossed the River Teith by the old metal bridge, we then headed for Coilhallan Wood. After walking through the wood we arrived at Easter Gartchonzie where we had views of Samson's 'Puttin' Stone up on the hill, we them crossed Eas Gobhain (also known as the River Venacher) via the old stone Gartchonzie bridge which was built in 1777.
After a short road walk we crossed the A821 to entered Milton and start our climb up round Bochastle Hill and into Coireachrombie, part of the Strathyre Forrest, at this point on our walk there was snow lying on the ground. We stopped for our lunch break on a lovely open part of the path, we should have had some beautiful views of the surrounding hills, but unfortunately due to the damp wet misty conditions we saw very little in the way of views.
After lunch we continued walking through Coireachrombie, walking down through the forest to reach the bridge over Garbh Uisge(also known as the River Leny), turning right before the bridge we headed towards the Pass of Leny.We took the old railway line path which ran parallel to Garbh Uisge (meaning Rough Water) and passed the Falls of Leny, to head towards Kilmahog and our finish at the Lade Inn where we had a lovely social stop in a lovely cosy pub before our long journey back home.
Thanks to everyone for their company today.
