Quietladyflash's Journey to Waistlength
Jul 4, 2006

This is the beginning! I started going to a hair stylist I thought I could trust with my hair. I would ask for trims and she'd cut just enough and everyone could tell my hair was growing long and healthy. Til that fatal day she ruined our relationship forever and cut my shoulder length hair to neck length! Now, I explained to her that I was trying to grow my hair to my butt, but she obviously didn't care. From then on I knew it was just going to be me and my hair. I started doing research and have been getting good results and am pretty much happy with my hair as of yet...

June 5th - Dec 5th

So, I've been on my hair journey for 6months now and I see many positive changes in my hair. I have learned alot about taking care of it and now think I can handle it myself. I thought I could go without a relaxer. Thats not going to happen. If I'm doing my hair myself the difference between the two textures is going to require too much heat! Anyways, these are pics of my own hair styling abilities...

Dominican RollerSet
Jan 4, 2007

I went to see my dominican lady for a rollerset and a touch up. These are the pictures. This is my first retouch in 6 months. I'm going to try to wait anouther 6 months till the next one. It came out nice but I think she left the texturizing relaxer on too long cause my roots I think are too straight! She offered a trim but I had to decline. I'm still doing my own trims.

Honey and Vegetable Oil
Dec 28, 2006

I read on a forum that honey is a good humectant meaning it moisturizes and helps with curl definition. I tried it once using a mixture of honey and water as a rinse and it did moisturize my hair. I definately noticed a difference. So the other day I spent the night at my bf's house and after wetting my hair in the shower realized I had forgotten to bring my conditioner and moisturizing products. So I snuck into the pantry and pulled out a bottle of honey and vegetable cooking oil. I put a mixture of the two into my wet hair and would you believe it protected my hair fine! My hair kept its wavy/curly texture and didn't poof up after it dried. I am so impressed. I will be doing this again! Honey, you are my friend :)

No Heat Styles
Dec 27, 2006

I love drying my hair in two pony tails with bands going all the way down the length. I got this idea from another fotki member who uses this technique to keep her flatironed hair straight. But when I tried it I got a wavy texture. But I thought is was beautiful and have continued doing this to get that same look. I also like airdrying my hair this way in preparation for flat ironing because the hair stays pretty tamed so I don't have to do alot of combing

Currently, to save time and money on rubber bands and now that my hair is a little longer it doesn't look so bad, I put two braids in my hair with the part going down the middle of my head to air dry.
