2013 - My 9th Year Natural

My hair goals for this year:

1. Henna/deep condition/steam once a month. I'm determined to establish some consistency in this area so I will REQUIRE myself to do it only once a month. If I get the urge, my hair feels dry, or somehow tells me it needs more, I will listen and oblige.
January - used henndigo.
March/April - Give up on henna! Tired of the burgundy hue, want my natural brown again, hate the way indigo makes my hair feel, yada yada yada.
May - used henna & alma that was in my freezer. I could not bare to look at the gray along my hairline another day.

2. Trim/Cut minimally. As I plan to primarily bun, I'm hoping that will suffice.
February 23 - Self trim
May 2 - Professional cut, 2-3" off

3. HHG

2012 - My 8th Year Natural

My hair goals for the year:

1. Deep condition once a week, by steaming or my baggy/ knit cap method. Totally unkept goal!

2. Henna my gray hair every 4-8 weeks. Again, did NOT make this a priority.

3. Avoid excessive trims. Ugh, major FAIL
Jan 2 - dusted
March 1 - trimmed (because I don't think I took off enough in Jan and ends aren't feeling great)
April 30 - emergency trim due to destroying ends with several Wash & Go attempts
June/July - small trim
Sept 7 - another small trim
Nov 13 (new moon) - this will be my 6th (clutches pearls) and final cut/trim this year
Yes, I have an obsession with scissors!!! I vow to do better in 2013!

3. Healthier, fuller, longer hair! HHG

End of the Year Observation - My hair was NOT a priority this year. I was not consistent with deep conditioning, wore too many wash & go styles, did not moisturize regularly, delayed detangling sessions until it was mandatory, loose hairstyles much more than I should have, which all resulted in too many scissor sessions!

2011 - My 7th Year Natural

Hair goals for this year:
1. Weekly steam treatments. Been slacking, gotta get back on track.

2. Back to henna. Only using it when the grays are bothersome, about every 8 - 11 weeks.

3. Reduce scissor sessions - dusting, trimming, and cutting. Therefore, NO scissors until after March 15! *Date passed without too much of an urge, plan to self trim in May! Update - trimmed May 13! Another small trim on August 22 because my ends are looking like cheap cotton balls!

4. Grow my hair longer than it's been since keeping a Hair Log. Longest length was post-pregnancy in 2007, 12-14". As of now, my hair is 11 1/2 - 13 1/2". Will measure at the end of the year. HHG

2010 - My 6th Year Natural

My 2010 hair goals:

1) Find alternative method of covering the gray strands along my hairline.

2) Complete the "Bun Challenge". I joined another challenge on LHCF (December 21 - March 21). The rules are to wear a bun, allowing for 3 passes or weekend passes. ***Completed***

3) Continue minimizing cuts/trims.
02/23/2010 - Dusted
06/16/2010 - Trimmed
06/27/2010 - Had to dust again because the single strand knot devils took over after I suffered from temporary insanity trying to wear Wash & Go / Loose styles for almost a week!
09/15/2010 - Trimmed

4) Complete another challenge, although I had previously stated that I wasn't going to officially join another one. LOL. This one is the Wet Bun Challenge (June 21 - September 21).

5) Grow, hair, grow!

2009 - My 5th Year Natural

I had planned to straighten my hair in April since I haven’t had it straightened since April ’08. However, I’m enjoying my curls/waves so much that I think I’ll pass for right now. (Had to straighten in May '09 for my professional cut.)
My hair goals for this year:
1) Minimize my obsessive cutting (Footnote: trimmed on Feb 2 and March 24, cut on May 29). I didn't let scissors touch my hair until Dec '09 when I did a self-trim. That is the longest I've EVER gone!
2) Continue using henna which is strengthening my hair and seems to be making it thicker/fuller, go figure.
3) Moisturize
4) Succeed in this "Hide Your Hair" Challenge (June 15 - December 15). Rule - you can't show the length of your hair

2008 - My 4th Year Natural

April - Huge setback due to Ouidad cut.
Tried to make the best of it by wearing wash & go, major knots, MANY cuts!
From April to December, cut/trim/dusted hair 13 times!
April – straightened my hair for a family picture, regretted it once it got hot in the studio and hair began to swell.
I didn’t want to look at the “carved/sliced” pieces so I wore buns 90% of the time.
October/November – Started using henna

2007 - My 3rd Year Natural

Started a bun challenge, quit
Goal to keep hair moisturized
My sides at the hairline (cowlicks) disappeared! I rushed to the dermatologist only to be told “female pattern baldness… won’t grow back”. I was devastated until I realized that it was nothing more than horrible postpartum shedding. About six weeks later, the hair started to fill in.
Finally loving my braidouts!

These pics are from the 1990's through the early 2000's. Not sure why my hair is different colors, depending on the light. Never had it colored before.
