Korea - December 2003

Seoul and Suwon Stations

Sung Hee and I traveled between Seoul and Suwon quite a bit, and many times took the train. Suwon Station and Seoul Station are both pretty new stations with shopping and entertainment.

Dongdaemun Stadium
Jan 3, 2004

This is a shopping district that surrounds one of seoul's soccer stadiums (used for the World Cup). It is open 10:30 AM to 5:30 AM, and is usually packed around midnight. There are about 3 huge malls right next to each other, and each mall has a live performance stage (i have photos). You can negotiate prices of everything that vendors sell in the malls.

Gyeongbokgung Palace
Dec 21, 2003

Gyeongbokgung was the main palace during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). One of five palaces in Seoul, it has a 500 year history. It was built by the founding King of Joseon dynasty, Lee Seong-Gye, in 1395 as he moved the capital city from Gyeseong to Seoul. Located in the northern part of Seoul, it is sometimes called Bukgwol.
