Pronger's case is still open,he has never been offically declared dead.The talk back when he disappeared was that he made it to Mexico.The story was that John,Bob's brother was seen getting on a plane to Mexico to bring Bob supplies.John can't tell us anything,he got a knock on the door in Aug.88......................

The story about finding Bobby in the DesPlains river ( near Joliet) is the only one of these posts with any credence. He was identified, and not by dental records; however that information was suppressed by the FBI..... Remember when Bobby would steal cars and go race at Santa Fe Race Track ??????

my dad raced with bob,bud and bill van allen in the 50's. he said ,when the law came bob would leave in a hurry.he drove a 6 chevelle at raceway park in the late 60's and was unbeatable that year. my favorate was bud keohler.

Sr. was telling me a story last week about how Pete was mad at Pronger one night and told him to follow him down to the East bar, that he was going to kick Prongers rear end. Anyway, I guess Pete lunged at him then Pronger proceeded to pick him up and throw him across the Bar. If you ever talk to Sr. have him re-tell the story. Very funny when he tells it.

An article appeared in the Chicago Sun-Times that Bob Prongers body was found face down in the DesPlains River. Bob's body was so decomposed they could only identify him by his dental record(s)! Has anyone else read this?

I think this is the night Pronger spun Koehler out and vis versa, then Pronger tried to t-bone Koehler down the frontstraight after he had chased him around with a bunch of flat tires. Pronger cut across the grass and missed Koehler by inches and then took a sledgehammer to Bud's new car in the pits.

I was talking about this picture with someone who was there that night and said Smokey was not very happy about changing tires.

You are very very close to the facts my freind. Pronger, he was a tough nut and a stand up guy and would not give an inch regardless of who you were ,if he thought he was right.came at a time when bad things happened in the night and not talked about. I witnessed him pull a driver by the legs around 100 feet after the driver jumped on his back during an on the track fist fight one eve.. that is the gospel truth.. it was the best entertainment you could get for a couple bucks on a sat eve ...
kinda like WWF Roller Derby and Raceway park drivers all in one. Team races driver feuds pit fights fights in the stands aahhhh the good old days Van Allen bumping and nudging Koehler then the same in reverse all in a twenty lap feature race

There was a story a bunch of years ago about some guy the authorities had who knew what happened to Pronger and a bunch of others or they knew where he was, or something. I remember seeing Pronger's picture in the paper with the story. I don't remember if the story said they recovered his body. I went to grade school with the Roulo's and even they didn't know what happened to him.

Not sure about the mattress comment. I read a book a few years ago about Mike Corbitt who raced at Santa Fe, was in the "Family" and was a police officer in Willow Springs. When the mob wanted money from the guys running chop shops Pronger was the first to say no way. They came and got him one night and put what was left of him in a 55 gallon drum of acid. If that's true then not much left to find under a mattress. The book was called Double Deal if I remember correct and they talked about Pronger by name.

I beleive BOB PRONGER, was truely one of the best. Racing miss DRIVERS like him. Suppositly G. Gordan Liddy mentioned him in a book he wrote. He came to a bad end along with Stevie Roberts and Henry Pens.Suppositly they were to testify befoe a Federal Grand Jury. They found him under a matress in Griffen, Indiana

I wonder what really happend to Bob, "the mob"? He was truely one of the great drivers from the chicago area, to bad we could not see him race thru the 70's with artgo and ect...his memory will live on for ever......
