Would it not be cool if somehwere those races on wednesday night were on tape somewhere? I would love to have a copy of every one. I was a huge fan. I remember Wayne Adams calling his number and instead of saying the word then the number he would spell the letters, then say the number. I am Mr. Anonymous by the way, my name is Todd. Just recollecting my first time that I tuned in and seeing Ray Freeman win, somebody I seen race a Grundy where I went to see the races. I think Lee Schuler spun in the front stretch melee as well.
WOW...I was going thru some books in the garage the other day when, suddenly a RACEWAY PARK program fell out into my lap and it had this very same picture on the cover. The program is from the year 1976, I froze for a second, then began to read it page by page like a little boy on Christmas day. A flood of memories came rushing back, the sights, the smells, the sounds, while sitting in the first turn grandstands all those years. My dad first toke me there as a kid.I am now 51 years old and got to take my kid to raceway before it closed. That souvenir program just 50 cents, but revisiting those great days....you guessed it ,PRICELESS !
I remember as a kid watching the wed night raceway on channel 26. Freeman won that first feature that i seen, the back end crossed the finish line first.
Didn't Kevin DeGraff also run a paint job like this? I remember his #72 Hobby Stock painted this way and I believe he had a Sportsman car painted blue and white but the only pictures I have of it have tape numbers on it.
The best full bodied stock ever built at Raceway. I believe it was Walt Mortenson at Sweat Mercury in Blue Island that built the car.Track champion and feature record holder at the time.
