Tri Five 55 56 57 Chevy Gassers

Some are the real deal, some are later era Super Stockers or "Street Freaks", some are modern renditions and some are just a mess, but they are all cool in their own way if you dig these cars. There is no intent to profit from these pics, however, if you see your pic and choose not to allow it to be present due to copyrighting, please let me know. PLEASE email your personal gasser photos for inclusion via anderegypt@aol.com Especially loved are old family photos. Send them in!! COMMENTS WELCOME!!!

This photo comes from the 50 years of Rod and Custom book. It is a picture of the Flashy Gasser out of Tonawonda, NY. I had the honor of meeting its original owner August of '09. This was quite a car! We are trying to locate its whereabouts or any information on what happened to it after Bob Staub sold it. Email me if you know of its history after its sale.

Hi Johnk320 I was wondering if you had any colour pics of this car. A good friend of Bob Staubs hasasked me to paint a pic of the car and all he had was a photo layout in black and white from rod and custom in feb. 1964. thanks.

Bob showed me color photos of his car when I was there. They were faded with age but showed the blue body color he had painted it. At the same time, he told me of a color spread one of the car magazines had done but he couldn't remember which one it was. I have the Rod and Custom and the Hot Rod issues that did articles in February '64 but they are both b&w photos. If I find which magazine did the color spread, I'll let you know. If it would help, I could ask Bob what the color was without raising too much suspicion on his part and then you could match it with a little research. Let me know what you think... John

Thanks John, but I am doing it tomorrow. I spoke to the guy who ordered it and he thought it was painted a medium candy blue. So I guess I will fly that and hope it is close, Thanks again.

Candy Blue is correct. If you have the time, you might want to call Gerstner's Collision Service in Buffalo, NY @ (716) 632-4778. He did the original work and might be able to shed more light on the correct shade. Keep me posted on this project, please. I'd be interested in seeing photos of your work. - John

Hi John thanks again for the info. I believe the sign is already at Bobs now.His buddy picked it up 2 weeks ago and said he was taking it to Bob last weekend.Unfortunately I didn't think to get a pic of it but his friend really liked it. We used the pose from Rod and Custom in 1964 and added some colour to it. You can see some of our work at www.the-old-farts-garage.com. It's still under construction but shows some stuff. Also on the H.A.M.B I have a photo gallery under the old farts garage. Thanks again for your efforts on this I truely appreciate it. Dave

Now, that's a hot rod (AKA gasser) a lot of us didn't have the money for straight axles, or thought it might be better spent working on the back end to hook up harder. Of course, nobody could resist wasting a little money on a cool hood scoop! Anyway, that is one real old time hot rod 55 Chevy. Cool!!!
