The original "SUV's"
International Harvester introduced the Scout in 1961 as a multi-purpose vehicle to compete with the venerable Jeep.
The design of the early Scouts, also known as "Baby Scouts", changed little from '61-'71. Most changes consisted of making the spartan utility vehicles more "family friendly" and offering bigger power plants. International made Model 80s from 1961 to 1965 and Model 800s from 66 to 69. In 1969, the Model 800A had some minor cosmetic changes with emblem positioning and shape of side marker lights as did the 800B in late 1970. In addition, there were several special edition or "Doll Up" Scouts. These included the Comanche, Aristocrat, Red Carpet, SnoStar, and SR-2 models. The options were mainly cosmetic and consisted of unique color schemes and appliques. Production on the "doll-ups" was usually between 1500-2500, so they are fairly rare.
These are photos, drawings and ads of some International Scout Model 80 and 800's I have taken from the web and my personal encounters. Don't see yours here? Send me a photo .
Note: these Scouts DO NOT belong to me. I don't have any other information than what is in the captions. See my album of Scouts For Sale:
