Cherie: I remember coming across your website five years ago and correpsonded with your re: locing hair. You were then and still are an inspiration. I bought your book and your children were just young'uns and they are now grown and lovely and handome! You look radiant and so beautiful. Your teens could be on the cover of a magazine. You still are inspiring me that one day I very well may lock my hair. I still have the information from your website that I copied to save for the future if I ever do lock my hair. Even if I don't such information is valuable and affirming. God bless.

Looks great, on everyone for that matter. I'm jealous.
I really like this photo! You and your son have some beautiful locs, so organic and healthy looking! I checked out the updated photos of your family on your naturalfreedomjourney web and I was wondering, was it a hard decision for you to loc your children's hair? Did you get any negative responses from other people when you did? I was thinking to loc my children's hair, they're desirous of it, but others' remarks haven't been the kindest...like why would you do 'that' to those babies' heads, et cet. (sigh) I'd love any advice/encouragement you can swing my way. ;)
=== Thank you for your words! The decision to loc my childrens' hair was not necessarily a tough one, but I did ponder on things a bit and weighed out the pros and cons. I did recieve comments from others both positive and negative. The negative ones bothered me a little bit, but not enough to deter me or my children from wearing them. We just realized and understood where the individuals were coming from due to the same mentality that we ALL once had...that the only good nap is one that you take when you're sleepy and that locs are "10 times as bad" and all THAT just stems from years of conditioning and ignorance. So, we rose above it and a few of the people who made the negative comments came around while a few of them did not...their problem, not ours!
I say go for it, especially if the children desire them! If nothing else, wearing the locs will teach them self-love and how to rise above negative comments because they will get them regardless if their hair is locked, straight, long or short...someone is going to find something wrong to pick on them about. Blessings to you whatever decision you make!
Clever, I'll get some pics of the other kiddos in here soon...but there are a few updates on my www.naturalfreedomjourney site of the little man and the girls! :)
