African HANDMADE BASKETS!
These are pictures of baskets from the MONDAY MORNING BASKET MARKET in Theiss, a small city about 2 hours outside of Dakar. I also visited a couple of villages where baskets are made. At the market, they are made by the women, but the men of the Sere' tribe also make baskets. There are Peace Corps volunteers working with the men in the mainly Christian Sere' villages to help them with design and marketing their wares. The women basket makers are Muslim and are also guided by a Peace Corp volunteer named Mustapha, working with a headman in another village cooperative.
