2007 Food Bank
The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (GPCFB)collects and distributes food to 350 charitable agencies in Allegheny. The Food Bank also picks up excess prepared food from restaurants, caterers and cafeterias and delivers it to agencies with on-site feeding programs. GPCFB works with low-income communities to establish farm stands and also conducts nutrition education programs.
The Food Bank relies on volunteers to sort and repackage salvaged grocery items and bulk product.
Over one million pounds of grocery items are distributed every month.
