A visit to Fiona's garden to dig up some plants to share.

Today I visited Dundonell House Gardens with Drumbeg Garden Club. A beautiful sunny day and very interesting garden. We were taken round the garden by Will, the gardener and were able to ask lots of questions about the plants. A big 'Thank you' to Will.

The gardens at Kildonan Lodge were open from 2pm-4pm today. The weather was a little overcast but quite good for taking flowers.

The 12 acre arboretum was laid out in 1870's about the same time as Mr Osgood Mackenzie was creating the gardens ar Inverewe. Here at Leckmelm, you will find many splendid trees and shrubs, some rare and unusual, and a wide range of specie and hybrid rhododendrons. Many new trees and shrubs have been planted complimenting the original Victorian collection.

Inverewe Gardens are on the west coast of Scotland.Osgood Mackenzie's plan to create a garden from windswept moorland on a rocky peninsular beside Loch Ewe raised a few eyebrows in its day. His vision is still astonishing today, with some of the world's largest - growing trees planted into holes hewn out of bedrock. He chose his site well. The garden is nurtured by the warm currents of the North Atlantic Drift, and is set amidst some of the country's finest scenery.
Over time a kaleidoscope of exotic olants has been cultivated, giving colour and interest throughout the year - a plantsman's paradise with Chinese rhododendrons, Tasmanian eucalypts, Himalayan blue poppies, New Zealand daisy bushes, Chilean lantern-trees, Californian dog's-tooth violets, South African bulbs, Mediteranean rock roses, and many more besides.

A visit to the Hydroponic centre at Achiltibuie where all the plants are grown in water with added nutrients.
