These pictures were taken between 2 and 4 p.m. at the gardens. Many of them are backlit or semibacklit- notice how the cactuses seem to glow as the sun shines through their nettles.
The gardens were hosting an exhibition by David Chihuly at the time, and you will see many large glass sculptures outdoors among the plants. I also shot a handful in the garden shop, but did not have time to view the remainder of the indoor exhibit.
The gardens were very crowded when I was there, largely because of the glass exhibit; however, I was impressed at how well the gardens were laid out, allowing me to take shots of wonderful vistas, and usually without even seeing people in the background.
