We hit Arches for about four hours on the way home from Yellowstone. It was a clear, hot day, but there were lots of tourists on hand. Becky and I hiked a valley together for about a mile and a half, then I made to additional treks on my own, climbing the overlook trail to Delicate Arch, viewed from across a canyon, and later the short path up to Windows.

You will see that the pictures include many views of the same sights. When you are there, each view seems to bring something else to your attention, whether it is the massive formations, the deep reds in the sandstone, or the fine erosional patterns etched by water and wind. As at Yellowstone, I carried two cameras along, one with a very wide angle zoom lens, the other with a medium zoom. No matter how you photograph spaces like this, it is difficult to capture a sense of scale in the stone.
