Some of my friends have received letters in the mail about the recall. I never got one. Maybe the reason being.....I have a 96 Crown Vic and had it repaired in 2005. I understood they were extending the dates of repair.

Sorry guys, but Fords only paying for cars, that are 7 years after vehicle date. So, it being 2005, only cars eligible are cars 98 and newer. Unless you recieved repairs
on cars before now, case (repaired 96 in 2003 or before).

Ford to pay for repairs - source, Chicago Tribune, June 18, 2005

"Ford Motor Co. agreed to settle customer lawsuits over alleged defects in the intake manifolds of as many as 2 million vehicles.

Under the settlement, filed late Thursday in federal court in Oakland, California, Ford will pay owners of some Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Cars and Ford Crown Victorias at least $735 to reimburse them for repairs made on faulty manifolds, which route air to an engine's cylinders.

Car owners claim in a class action lawsuit that Ford installed plastic intake manifolds that were prone to cracking and causing coolant leaks on some 1996 to 2001 models. The settlement could cost Ford as much as $375 million.

AFTER COMPLETING THE 55000 CHECK ON MY 1997 LINCONLN TOWN CAR CARTIER, THE ENGINE STARTED OVERHEATING DUE TO LOSS OF ENGINE COOLANT. I TOOK THE TOWN CAR TO THE LCOA LINCOLN DEALERSHIP AND IT COST ME $1317.00 TO REPLACE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. I ASKED IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL BUT WAS ASSURED THAT NO RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED BY FORD/LINCOLN.
DO YOU HAVE FURTHER INFO ON THIS?

My brother purchased a 1997 Grand Marquise not quite a year ago and his vehicle has almost 94,000 miles on it and today, he founded out he has a crack manifold. In the process I found this website. I'm pretty sure that the dealer knew there was a recall on these vehicles, and I believe we have the lemon law...wouldn't this be covered? need info

1997 Grand Marquis (25000 miles) with a cracked intake manifold on 04/24/2005. The vehicle is driven very little by my parents, and the repair bill will be approximately $800. A manufacturing defect that Ford needs to make good on for all! If any news on a recall, please keep me informed.

I have a 97 Lincoln town car. My intake manifold blow 350 miles from my home. I had to rent a car, stay in a motel for two nights. Cost was avout $800. When I got back home the motor had a click in it. I took it to the Lincoln dealer in Monterey. They said it would be $2500 to repair and I would have NO GUARANTEE on the work because of driving it with the broken intake manifold. It has cost me about $5000 by now and I still have an engin that is not as good as before the happened.

I had no idea that Ford recalled this plastic intake manifold until today. I stopped this morning to get coffee and came outside to a smoking car. My car is in great condition and now this happens. The mechanic stated that this part was recalled a couple years ago. Well, why didn't they replace the defective part on my car. Plastic by an engine that gives out heat.........who thought of this idea. I don't believe that I should pay for this damage done to my vehicle. They expect me to pay $1,100.00 to fix. Please keep me informed on what to do here because I have never had an issue like this before. Thanks.

I live in Canada and just had my 1996 Gran Marquis ruin the engine from coolant leaking into oil from cracked manifold. The car has 200 thousand kilometers (120,000 mi.) and is in otherwise good condition. There was no indication until there was what a mechanic called a hydraulic lock.My least expensive solution seams to be to find and install a used engine and to modify somehow so as not to have a repeat.

    READ THIS!!
I bought my 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis August 2002 with 71,000 miles from a Dodge dealer. My nephew, the salesman advised me to buy a warranty. I paid $1,588 for a 24 mo. warranty. March 2004 at 82,140 miles had antifreeze leak. Brought it in to my mechanic. Plastic intake manifold cracked. Replacement (new design with aluminum plate across front) with labor, etc cost $1,070.10 (with sales tax). Warranty company repaid me $909 because of $75 deductable and they don't repay for sales tax. Lucky me. This week Dec. 2004, terrible smell front of car. Large damp area on concrete driveway under engine compartment. Went for short drive, opened hood, steam rising near air cleaner. Brought it in to my mechanic. He thought it might be manifold again. But it wasn't. The cause was Ford part no. F1VY-8555-A tube, A METAL COOLANT TUBE which had corroded, shooting antifreeze upward, destroying the Mass Air Flow Sensor. 86,885 miles Dec. 08. Cost me $8.60 for tube, $40.05 for gaskets, $24.00 antifreeze, $169.60 for sensor. Water pump required removal to do repair, I paid $98.30 for new replacement to be safe. Labor $480.00. Total $ 820.05 without sales tax. WARNING. Be prepared for this to happen to you.

Same story. I took my family to DisneyWorld after Hurricane Ivan did a number on my house and life in general. Total failure of the manifold on I75 @ mile marker 394 @0230hrs. Family was in peril and it cost me $1,000.00 to fix it.

What would happen if I went to small claims court and sued FORD. Their is enough info online to win.

    ANY IDEAS ON THIS????????

I have a '98 Ford Crown Victoria which is overheating. Will this problem with the plastic manifold cause coolant to blow out the resivoir filler cap when the engine overheats? I replaced the thermostat and water pump three months ago when I had a similar problem. The car did not overheat until last week. I replaced the water pump again last Saturday and the temperature guage started to rise after ten minutes of idling. I shut it off quickly before it boiled over. I was not aware of plastic intake manifold and its' failure until I ran accross this site and a few others. Sounds like Ford really stuck us! Anyone who can answer my question please e-mail me directly. Thanks

97 Mercury Grand Marquis- 70,xxx miles. Cracked intake happened this morning on my wife's way to work. It's pretty sad when a car manufacturer puts in a piece of plastic for a major component on a 190 degree engine. So they decide to pump coolant through it. It heats, it cools, it heats, it cools, kinda impairs the integrity of plastic. Anyone looking for a class action suit, its here...http://www.bigclassaction.com/class_action/ford_manifold.html. You seem to get pretty p@$$*d when you get slapped with a $1000 bill for replacement and labor with a part that should have been installed in the first place, and when they recall some vehicles with the same problem but not all of them. I say lets all get on this thing and get our repair costs back. Either that or have one big long line of burning Ford products in their parking lot!
