Garden (renovation works and finished garden)

From the end result to how it used to be....
After 30 years in this house it was about time to renovate the garden and say goodbye to our beloved trees who became really way too big!

    I see some strawberries to the right of the planter. Is there enough light for them?
    ---
    plenty....we have loads of light and sun nowadays since those trees are gone! These are what we call bosaardbeien, woodland strawberries...Fragaria vesca.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodland_Strawberry
    They are tiny and taste wonderful...says the rabbit! He loves them...so we did not have many yet! :) It is not easy to find something that cannot harm a rabbit when eating it...rabbits are very vulnerable.
    =============
    Around here, rabbits are on the top of the menu for just about everything.
    ----
    yes, the wild ones...with domesticated rabbits it is a different story. Breeders did not always care about the rabbit but about the looks of it so there are a few with severe problems.
    Also, in the wild you would not notice when they die would you? LOL

    Doesn't seem like a lot of soil in that container. Do you have to water every day? and doesn't the rabbit get soaked?
    ----
    there is very little soil Mike, and it is mixed with loads of perlite for drainage. These plants do not really need soil...as long as they are steady and secured it is ok, they get their food from the rainwater and the air. and the majotr problem is always too much water! In dry periods they use the water that they store in the leaves during wet seasons...
    The story goes that when you grow them on your roof the ghosts will stay away...so they were often grown on roofs in the old days. It looks fantastic though...it is very ecofriendly too! The only thing you need to do is make sure the water can drain off and that there is enough sun! I did both so I hope they will flourish. If not...well, we enjoy them now and they are not soe xpensive!
    =================
    Well, that explains why we have so many ghosts in the Glen. We have none of these plants around here.

    Ooooo......my brother has something that looks like this. He calles it Hen and Chicks. Related?
    ---
    sure! they are frost resistant over here ...the only problem we might have is too much water so they will not grow in a border except in a rockgarden
    =========
    Yeah...my brother grows his in a rock garden, come to think of it.

    wise man!

    I like the idea of looking back at your own house and the pond while sitting in the afternoon shade. You get to view everything beautiful you have created instead looking at the neighbors satelite dish and roofs.
    ---
    yes, that's very ugly eh? we hope the trees will grow fast

    Does it get to go out and munch a bit of the garden? I am over run with rabbits!!! Not so cute anymore....
    ---
    no...it is always in the cage or the run, whatever he wants...seems to be happy, most of the pet rabbits have far less space I guess.. you cannot have one wandering around here!

    I love this water feature; looks Japanese
    ---
    me too, it has tiny led lights to illuminate the water at night...
    It was not easy to find a waterfeature that we liked, they were all too small for the garden or way too big or way too expensive! We were looking for a more modern one but that was not within budget! I have thought of buying one in the UK as they are much cheaper but we have different sizes of connections with the electricity etc and that will give huge problems as water is involved etc.

    This is lovely. Did you put the table and chairs on the other side of the pool to catch sun....... I was thinking it would be more convenient to take foot just outside the door, where the comfortable seats are. But what do I know? The whole renovation is absolutely stunning, and I wish you lots of happy hours spent there.
    ----
    Oh no, not strange Myra...but it is the opposite! we put them there to catch some shade in afternoon Myra.Since we did not have much chance to sit in the garden yet, always working in it!, and we only use the table for dining it was nice to have some shade! The back of the house is facing West so we have full sun in the house late in the afternoon and with the table on that pation we have full sun in our face. We have two sets of tables, and 6 chairs so we can switch! :) We did not put the second one together yet as it is just us for now. We will on a rainy day...:) and then we will have one where the old blue ones are now for the evenings and mornings. The old ones will have to go ...they look OK-ish but are not. We are trying to get some that match with the rest, the material is much nicer as it ventilates and you do not stick onto the back like with the old plastic ones on a hot day!
    The tables can be moved around by just one person, they are lighter than you might expect with the glass etc. and next to each other they make a huge 180 x 90 cm table. Great for al fresco dining! :)
