(SATC) Tuscarora State Forest

Hey! Check out the area where the SATC 2008 Hike for Habitat took place. Prior to the event, Karen Balaban & I drove out here to verify the location of the hikes check points. It's beautiful and unspoiled. It includes scenic overlooks, acres of Mountain Laurel, Black Bears (yep, we saw em' ... about page 4 depending on your screen resolution), ruins of towns from the 18th century, and lots more. What a wonderful area to hike in!!

C&O Canal Association - Geology Hike 16 Nov 2008

Meet at 11:00am underneath the route 15 bridge. The walk should last no more than three hours - bring comfortable walking shoes and clothing along with snacks and beverages. If the weather calls for rain, the event will be pushed to the next day; Sunday, November 16th at the same time (this happened).

We will walk over to Calico Rock, and then we will walk to the overlook above the Point-of-Rocks RR Tunnel to get a closer look at the Catoctin Formation and the view of the Potomac River valley. If we have enough time we will walk along the towpath up to the Catoctin RR Tunnel at milepost 50 to view another spectacular rock formation. For further information go to
