George's accolades include three Emmy Awards while working in San Diego. Also for his work, George received The Critics' Critic Award last year from The Broadcast Film Critics Association, North America's largest critics group. The Publicists Guild of America also honored him in 2003 with its Press Award. This recognition honors an outstanding member of the press who covers the entertainment industry.

George serves on the board of the charity group, The Thalians, which raises money for the maintenance of The Thalians Mental Health Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He and his wife also avidly support Retired Racers and the Greyhound Adoption League, two organizations devoted to saving greyhounds when their dog racing days are over. The Pennacchios have two greyhounds of their own, Vivian and Billy.

George's wife, Erin, is a designer who specializes in custom-made gowns for women. She also makes every vest you see George wearing daily on "Eyewitness News".
