Day 1 - Salt Lake City, Bonneville Flats, Wenover
Thursday, May 3rd, 2007, is what I'd call my sightseeing journey to Ely, Nevada. Before arriving in Ely, I spent the first day sight doing Salt Lake City, the Great Salt Lake, Lake Bonneville, Wendover (both in Utah and Nevada), the historic Wendover Airfield where the Enola Gay did practice bombing runs in WWII. Once in Ely, I spent the 2nd day visiting the Great Basin National Park and Lehman Cave. The third full day was taken up visiting the working railroad shops in Ely, Nevada, owned and operated by the Nevada Northern Railway - a fully functional railroad museum. While in Ely, a side trip was made to the huge open pit copper mining owned by Kennecott. On the 4th day, I did more Nevada Northern Railway tourist rides and exploring some historic sites north of Ely.
