The director of the museum, Alexander Glezer, was the founder of major "illegal" exhibitions in Moscow in the 70's which were broken up by KGB. Alexander was expelled from Soviet Union in 1975. Many works from his collection are now in Zimmerli Museum as part of Norton Dodge's collection.
