Goodguys 2012 - Jul 29, 2012
-
Here are the pictures I took at the Goodguys Model Car Show at the Puyallup Fair Grounds, Northwest Nationals. There were 250 models in several classes.
This was the first year for the Swapping of models. Of all the people that said they would do it last year. 3 of us showed up with trucks to exchange. My 1951 Chevrolet Pickup took second in the Truck class and was my entery for the exchange. I know some peole don't like their name used on line so I will say. I got the truck that was built by Floyd, Floyd got the truck built by Dave and Dave got the truck built by me. Now they want to make it an annual thing at the Goodguys. Next year the theme is "Replicate any Funny Car". That theme was choosen by a random draw. I think it will be cool. This time they want the build to be kept under wraps until next year, It's like Secert Santa but different. LOL
Any way here are the pictures. - Album was created 11 months ago and modified 11 months ago

Peninsula Model Show and Contest 2012 - Jun 9, 2012
-
Went to this show at Fort Worden State Park. It was an IPMS show. A first for me. The show was primarily Military, Sci-fi and Ships. So the classes for entering automotive subjects was small and limited. All in all it was a good show. I entered 8 builds and won 2 first places, two second places and a third place. Bought 10 bucks worth of raffle tickets and won 5 kits so that worked out well. None of the kits are real hand clappers but they are cheap pieces for the scrap yard or whatever comes up. I don't know that I would make the drive again but it was fun once. I know I have never been to Fort Worden State Park but I couldn't get over how familiar it all looked to me. The fort was built in 1902 and decomissioned in 1953. Any way while talking with a modeler I knew at rhe awrds presentation she told me that Fort Worden State Park is where the movie "A Gentleman and an Officer" was filmed. Bang the light bulb was lit. That is exactally where I had seen it all before. So be forewarned that this show is not all automotive, but some very skilled modelers did their thing for sure. I hope you enjoy the photos. - Album was created 1 year ago and modified 1 year ago

Model Car Sunday 2012 - May 6, 2012
-
Went to Model CAr Sunday at the Elks Club in Puyallup Washington today. It was a good show lot's of modelers present, tons of vendors. When I got there the parking lot had about 25 or 30 special interest cars in it. Not hot rods but nice drivers. The 1953 Hudson Hornet won a second place in "Street Stock" and the 1937 Fiat Topolino won second place on the master table. So all in all it was a great day. 170 mile round trip, I can say it was well worth it. - Album was created 1 year 1 month ago and modified 1 year 1 month ago

Model Fest 2012 - Mar 31, 2012
-
WOW, What a Saturday. I left here at 6:30AM and got back home at 7:10PM. The deal there is that I had a few minutes of intense driving because of not being able to see to drive at night. In the Model Contest I didn't win anything. I was not prepared this year. No new stuff tp enter. I entered Big Blue in the Theme Class (Pickups and Emergency Vehicles) and he was way out classed. I don't know what the final Model count was I heard about 10AM it was 240 and people were still setting up. There are some super nice models here by some very talented builders. Some I photograped while walking around the tables and then some I had to go back to and take more pictures of. And then there were some I had to go back and photograph for a third time(just incase I missed something). I bought 3 donor kits for 5 bucks apiece and won three kits in the raffle. That's six kits for 20 bucks that's a deal any day. I also bought an event shirt. They were way cool. The picture on the event shirt is by Jarvis Watson and it shows a early 60's Ford pickup being stopped by a cop. So it has both themes in it. Pickups and Emergency vehicles, pretty cool. It was 18.00 bucks but worth the money. A show I will go back to next year and the next one. Congrats to everyone that won in their class job well done. - Album was created 1 year 2 months ago and modified 1 year 2 months ago

Bob Paeth Classic, Best of the Best 2012 - Mar 18, 2012
-
Wow it's that time of year again. The first of the Model Car contests I will go to this year. I didn't get as much built over the Winter as I wanted so not as much new stuff as I wanted to have for the season. I entered 6 models and won 3 awards. 2nd place in Factory Stock with the 1953 Hudson Hornet, First place went to a 1953 Hudson Hornet That was a twin on mine right down to the color. The difference was that mine is the ugly twin. The other had better workmanship than mine and deserved the win. 2nd place in the oval race class with the 1955 Mercedes 300SLR. I know it's not an oval racer but they didn't have a Road Race Class. I am OK with that. Rules are fair as long as they apply to everyone. The 1936 Ford 3 window coupe "1STCAR" got an honorable mention in the Rat Rod Class. That was a 1969 Dick Landy Charger Drag Car. I am super OK with that. It was nice getting to see some builders and talk with them. I might end up making a friend or two yet. Enjoy the pictures. Next event for me will be Model Fest in 2 weeks. - Album was created 1 year 3 months ago and modified 1 year 3 months ago

OSSM 2011 - Nov 12, 2011
-
Yesterday I turned 63 years old. I don't know why but that really bothers me for some reason. Guess I never thought I would make it this far. LOL Anyway as part of the Birthday celebration a friend of mine, John Clappe, drove down to Aberdeen spent the night and then on Saturday he drove me down to Portland to attend this show. I had never been to an OSSM (Oregon Society of Scale Modelers) Show before so it would be fun. The show was held at a Denny's Conference Center in the town of Clackamas, Oregon. It's Portland for really. So we left at 6:20 AM got there at 9:10 AM, that was perfect as the doors opened at 9 AM. They had a large number of classes and being the first time I had to really think about how each car would be entered. So I entered 7 builds and won 3 first place placques and a second place ribbon. They had a swap meet hooked on to the show. I will say they need a bigger room for this show. It was so cramped that the first hour in there was FULL CONTACT model shopping. Anyway it was a good show, a great day with an old friend and the perfect end to a birthday celebration. I will go back next year if I can find a driver.
Job well done Floyd and the rest of OSSM also. Tough but fair judges, just makes it all the more exciting. - Album was created 1 year 7 months ago and modified 1 year 7 months ago

Rod Run to the End of the World 2011 - Sep 10, 2011
-
Went to the town of Ocean Patrk, Washington for this one. I guess they used to have a Model Contest with tyhe Rod Run but discontinued it 8 or 10 years ago. Some this year it was brought back and looked over by the SABA Members. I want to say that they did an outstanding job. I guess next year they will have a bigger canopy and more tables. This year there were about 70 models there and it was a perfect amount for the table space they had. The highspot of the show for me was winning Best Race Car with the 1949 Merc Pro Mod. I have been waiting all year for that car to win and it finally did. It was the last show for the car. Actually it's the last show of the year for me. There is one more show in November but I woukld have to have a driver to go to it. Anyway on to the pictures. - Album was created 1 year 9 months ago and modified 1 year 9 months ago

Goodguys 2011 - Jul 24, 2011
-
The Goodguys had their annual event at the state fair grounds in Puyallup. I took my models up on Thursday and went back on Sunday to see the show both 1:1 and scale. There were about 300 models. All in all a good show. Got one first place 2 seconds and 1 third. The only give plaques for first place so everything else is an honorable mention. It was a cooking hot day and great fun was had by all. I will go back next year for sure. - Album was created 1 year 11 months ago and modified 1 year 11 months ago

Model Car Sunday 2011 - May 1, 2011
-
Today I went to the Model Car Sunday a show held at the Puyallup Elks for the 22 ND year. It was hosted by PSAMA ( Puget Sound Auto Modelers Association ). Great show with lots of venders and tons of Models. Lots of stuff I hadn't seen before. Won a first and second in dtraight line class and won the Michael E. Hester Memorial Award. I really enjoyed the show. There are 25 classes and they are all judged by the people that enter models and the public that pays to come in and look around. I hope you enjoy the viewing as much as I enjoyed the show. - Album was created 2 years 1 month ago and modified 2 years 1 month ago

Model Fest 2011 - Apr 10, 2011
-
Wow what a show! Model Fest 2011 had so much to offer. The theme this year was "Customs" and there were some killer builds on that table. Also the Jairus Watson Challenge came to an end. Does seem like a year. This table had some outstanding builds. The modelers should all be proud of what they did and jairus should be proud of how well the replicated his drawings. The doors opened at 9 AM I got there about 9:30 AM. At 10AM they announced over the PA that they had 285 models present. I looked up and there were still people coming through the door with boxes of models. I don't know the final count but it had to be close to 400. SABA did they normal excellent job putting this event on. I think this was the 23 rd year, might be off a year or two either way.
Next year the theme is Pickups and emergency vehicles. Also an added feature is to build what you think AMBR should look like. I plan to be there with builds for both tables. - Album was created 2 years 2 months ago and modified 2 years 2 months ago

Bob Paeth Classic 2011 - Mar 20, 2011
-
The Portland Bob Paeth Classic Model Contest has been part of the Portland Roadster show for close to 40 years now. SABA was the host and did their usual fine job. The judgeing was fair and not easy. There were close to 300 entries in a number of classes. I had a great time. Good job guys see you next year. - Album was created 2 years 3 months ago and modified 2 years 3 months ago

Billetproof Model Show 2010 - Jun 26, 2010
-
This isthe model part of the Billetproof. The show was put on by SABA Northwest, they did their usual great job. The opnly real negative is there weren't enough table for the number of models entered. That is a terrible problem to have. Shows just how sucessful the show has become in 2 years. Good work SABA WayToGo. They had more tables brought in and all was well. Almost 200 models there. This show doubled in size in one year. I wonder what next year will be like. Some excellent builds by some very talented builders. I entered 6 builds and came home with 1 plaque. Big Blue won best truck. I was a very lucky guy to win it. Thank you SABA and see you next year. - Album was created 3 years ago and modified 3 years ago

Model Fest 2010 - Mar 27, 2010
-
Good show. The SABA people did another bang up job this year. It didn't seem like there were as many vendors as other years but the place was full and busy.
The theme this year was "Got a Hemi in it" So any kind of Hemi in any kind of body. The quality of the builds was excellent.
Model Car Magazine photographed the Topolino and Big Blue for possible pubhishing. Had another car win best Mopar. So 3 outa 3 ain't bad. I can't wait til next year now. LOL - Album was created 3 years 3 months ago and modified 3 years 3 months ago
